How to Prepare for Your Engagement Photo Shoot

Your engagement photoshoot can be loads of fun.  It is a great way to let your friends and family know about your coming union, your ceremony, and your reception.  The best photoshoots are done with fun and enjoyment, so while you keep these coming tips in mind, remember to have fun!  There is nothing the camera likes more than when you and your partner are genuinely enjoying yourselves.

Location, Location, Location

Think about a place that both you and your partner like to be in.  Often outdoor venues are a good idea, weather permitting.  Any rural areas that you both like, a scenic area of your favourite city park, the beach, by the river – or even under a tree in the garden of your backyard.  You can also incorporate the beauty of the seasons into your photo shoot, like the firey reds, golds, and yellows of Autumn, the silver and white simplicity of winter, or the glowing greens and full flowers of spring and summer.  It could also be fun to incorporate how you first met or something else personal about you and your partner – for example, if you met in a coffee shop, some of the shots can feature you and your partner having coffee.

What to Do?

Photoshoots love action over poses.  Once you have your venue picked out, pick a fun activity for you and your partner to do during the shoot – it can be anything from picking berries to having a full-blown snowball fight.  Whatever sounds like the most fun and the most practical, give it a try.

Costuming

It is best to keep in mind the colours you’ll be wearing in the context of the venue.  If there are a lot of muted colours in your venue, consider wearing bright colours that will pop against the background.  Otherwise, if there are strong colours in your venue, try to pick out some clothes that will complement the surroundings in the same colour scheme.

Have fun with your engagement photo shoot! That’s the most important thing to remember.  Your photographer will give you prompts and ideas for great poses, activities, and shots, but location, activities, and the wardrobe are good to keep in mind.  For your engagement photos, contact Now and For Always Photography and you will have precious, beautiful memories for years to come.
